Addis Ababa — President of Coalition for Unity and Democracy (Kinijit), Ayele Chamiso told ENA that the previous leaders of Egypt have been opposing Ethiopia’s right to use Nile waters before the launching of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
The leaders had also tried to utilize different maneuvers to obstruct the construction of the dam even after the launching, and they held the wrong perception that Ethiopia is incapable of building such a huge dam by itself, the president elaborated.
The willingness of the present leadership to agree in signing the principles based on fair utilization of water has been the firm stand of Ethiopia from the start, Ayele underlined.
The signing of the Declaration of Principles is therefore a huge success for Ethiopia, according to the leader of Kinijit.
The agreement is the outcome of Ethiopia’s successful diplomatic efforts and would build the country’s image, he noted.
Founder and Chairman of Ethiopian Visionary Party (EVP), Teshale Sebro on his part stated that the visit of the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to Ethiopia has replaced the mistrust that existed between the countries with trust.
This has opened a new chapter in Ethio-Egyptian relations and would contribute to the timely completion of the GERD, he pointed out.
