Arts to Raise More Fund

‘Abay Era of literature’ – arts event aimed at further eliciting public participation to Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) held Wednesday evening as part of the 7th year marking of the Dam’s commencement at National Theater.

The fund raising activities have helped to secure over 10 billion Birr so far, as stated by Office of the National Council for the Coordination of Public Participation on the Construction of GERD.

Office Project Management, Environmental Protection and Arts Affairs Director Solomon Kassa said this event would further trigger public participation as people in the arts sector would disseminate the message in their works.

The event saw various celebrities from the sector that recited poems and played instrumental music. The arts’ evening was also graced by video clip displayed to audiences.

It as well play a big role in scooping up previous remorse resulted from the abject poverty, and makes the light at the end of the tunnel visible, he hints.

Using films, photos, poems and other art products, more public collection could be drawn to speed up the construction which is 36 percent away from completion.

National Theater Communication Expert Furi Ayele also told this reporter that artists have shouldered with greater responsibility in motivating the public not only for the completion of GERD but also to carry out other mega projects.

In this regard, lots of works are ahead, she hints.

Abay Era of Literature started in 2012.

GERD Bond, GERD Trophy, GERD Torch, GERD Bond Week, GERD Lottery, among others, have been the platforms that set the way straight for citizens at home and abroad to put their finger prints on the Dam project.
