State Minister Dewano Kewdir received a copy of the letter of credentials for the newly appointed Ambassador Eextraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China. Ambassador La Yifan. The Ambassador expressed his honor to be appointed to Ethiopia, a country with a long history and which had struggled hard and successfully to maintain its independence. Ambassador La Yifan said Ethiopia was among the few countries achieving most of the Millennium Development Goals. He emphasized that China was a strong partner for development, and said that the people-to-people exchange, the cooperation in sectors of trade, manufacturing, construction, infrastructure, science and technology and investment sectors, made it clear that the China-Ethiopia relationship was the model for South-South cooperation. The Ambassador thanked the Government for the efforts made in providing support for the Chinese embassy in Ethiopia and hoped that they would continue working closely together. State Minister said the relationship between the two countries was very strong, historic and increasingly valuable. He said China’s support for Ethiopia in various developmental sectors was making a real difference. The State Minister added that although there were many Chinese investors engaged in various sectors, Ethiopia needed still more to invest and utilize the current conducive investment opportunities. He pledged to work with the Embassy and provide necessary support for its activities.
